During the month of July, Yellowstones' Mount Washburn hosts a very impressive display of wildflowers. Sticky Geranium, Arnica, Yellow Columbine, Indian Paintbrush, Lupine, and Cowparsnip to name a few. On this evening I was photographing the wildflower carpet when a thunderstorm blew in south of me. I noticed lightning flashing in the distance and decided to try to photograph it. I composed this scene with my 35mm camera. I shot 5 rolls of film and got two shots with lightning. The amazing thing was that there was no wind on top of Mount Washburn. These are 8 second exposures and there is no motion blur in the wildflowers. This is why I kept photographing even though I had burned up 4 rolls and did not record a strike. I thought, the wind is nonexistent, I might as well keep trying. This shot, with a double strike, is the first shot on the 5th roll of film.
