This photograph of a migrating flock of Bohemian Waxwings eating Mountain Ash Berries was taken in Butte, Montana during the December migration. When you see these birds feeding, it is like a living Christmas tree. The ornaments are alive and moving. This shot was to emphasize that every clump of berries has a bird on it. The problem is, these birds move very fast. To stop action, you have to open up the aperature, which takes away depth of field. So how do you get all the birds in focus? I pre-scouted this branch and found if I photographed from a certain spot, all of the birds were the same distance from the lens and therefore would be in focus. The problem is getting the birds to land on this tree. I worked on these birds for a week, and one day they were nice enough to land on this branch!
