The short tailed weasel's coat turns to white in the winter months. Sometimes the weasel in its white winter coat is called Ermine. Ermine comes from the sthort tailed weasel's Latin name. I think that the use of the name "ermine" was a marketing move by the fur industry. People found the name Ermine to be more pleasing than weasel. I saw this little Ermine on the frozen shore of Georgetown lake in southwest Monatana. These little carnivores are bold and curious.
