The Roxy Theatre
"The Roxy Theatre of Choteau, MT"

This photograph was taken in June of 1994. The Roxy Theatres were a chain of theatres named after the owner's sweetheart located in Choteau and Missoula, MT and in Kellog, ID. There is a certain romance associated with movie theatres that translates visually in this 50 year old theatre. With the three bicycles awaiting the return of their owners, and the glowing neon sign, I had to stop to photograph this special place. I really like the Schindler's List movie poster in the front window. The black and white of the poster represents the horror of the nazi holocaust. This is contrasted with the colorful glow of the neon sign of the Roxy, representing the peaceful life in this small town. These two realities, though very different, are as connected as the two hands in the poster.
